'Your own stupidity': Community rallies behind FNQ croc

A TRAP has been set for a crocodile believed to be responsible for attacking a swimmer at Lake Placid on Thursday.
The 56-year-old Cairns father received lacerations to his head and upper body before escaping the jaws of a croc and swimming about 400m to shore to seek help about 12.45pm on Thursday.
A Department of Environment and Science spokeswoman said officers had sighted the animal, believed to be about 2.5m and 8-10 years old, but lost sight of it.
On January 28, following reports of a swimmer being bitten by a crocodile in Lake Placid, DES wildlife officers began a search of the area, she said. ....

UPDATE: Wildlife officers are pulling out all the stops to catch a 2.5m crocodile which attacked a swimmer at Cairns Lake Placid.
Paramedics say the 44-year-old man was very lucky to have escaped with superficial injuries after he was forced to prise the crocodile s jaws from his head on Thursday.
Dr Matthew Brien, program coordinator for northern wildlife operations with the Department of Environment and Science, said there was no doubt a crocodile was responsible. ....

Huge croc caught in Fitzroy River trap

A crocodile has been trapped in the Fitzroy River and will be rehomed at the Koorana Crocodile farm.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service officers caught the 2.5m crocodile about 10 km from the barrage on December 16.

A baited trap was set on November 26, and wildlife officers successfully captured the animal last week.
The crocodile will be rehomed at the Koorana Crocodile farm on Tuesday, December 22.
According to the DES, under the Queensland Crocodile Management Plan the area of the Fitzroy River above the barrage and 20km upstream is within Zone C (Targeted Management Zone). ....
