Grant to help local trails recover from heavy use La Crosse Community Foundation gives to Mississippi Valley Conservancy July 30, 2021 6:53 PM During the pandemic lockdown, many outdoor areas saw heavy traffic as people were doing socially distant activities. A $20,000 grant will help MVC restore those heavily used areas. The money is going towards tool kits for hikers to help maintain the trails they use, as well as training sessions. “They can come to the nature preserves where they’re at as a family, open up the kit, and actually help restore the land and make sure the trails and nature preserves continue to be a beautiful place for all of us to enjoy for years to come,” says Executive Director of the La Crosse Community Foundation Jamie Schloegel. ....

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Sunday afternoon marked the one-year anniversary of Anthony Fimple s death. His friends and family members gathered in his memorial garden to announce a new fund that will benefit the community in his honor. A year ago Anthony Fimple was fatally shot while working at a downtown La Crosse bar and restaurant. We established the fund as a memorial, a tribute to his spirit and as a way to turn a negative into a positive, said Gus Fimple, Founder of The Anthony Fund. He explained that although the actions of the man who fatally shot and killed his son will never make sense, creating this fund is an effort to reason with it. ....
Dahl Family YMCA introduces new No Boundaries Summer Camp June 9, 2021 6:26 PM Kade Overton Updated: The camp will include activities such as pontoon rides and fishing from a wheelchair-accessible dock. The camp is designed to increase campers’ independence, self-esteem and overall well-being. “Camp is really a summertime staple,” said camp organizer Briana Spicer. “Everyone deserves the opportunity to explore, to adventure, so what better way to use our beautiful facility here and offer all of those camp-like experiences that sometimes those with disabilities don’t have that opportunity to do so.” Before this camp was introduced, the nearest adaptive camp was in Wisconsin Dells, according to the YMCA. ....
