South Australia’s most vulnerable babies and their families will receive improved care and support at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital following the opening of the redeveloped Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade said the upgrades to the NICU are part of the hospital’s continuing commitment to maintain first-class care for its patients.
“This upgrade is the second and final stage of the $14 million Neonatal Nurseries Redevelopment which not only improves care for our premature and ill babies, but also lifts support for their families during this difficult experience,” Minister Wade said. ....

The new Women’s and Children’s Hospital (nWCH) will have the capacity to treat approximately 21,400 additional patients a year and will feature more than 1,200 car parks and a bridge over the rail line that will enable families to access Adelaide’s parklands for respite and play.
Premier Steven Marshall said the new design features are revealed in the nWCH Master Plan, which he released today, marking another major milestone in the project.
“The Master Plan outlines key details about the benefits this state-of-the-art hospital will deliver for South Australian women, children and families,” Premier Marshall said. ....

A physiotherapy led clinic at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital is fast tracking the care provided to young orthopaedic patients, resulting in earlier assessment and treatment.
Women’s and Children Health Network (WCHN), Senior Orthopaedic Physiotherapist, Karen Schubert, said the Physiotherapy Led Orthopaedic Clinic (PLOC) is drastically improving patient pathways.
“Before the clinic was established, all patients referred with a musculoskeletal problem needed to be seen by an Orthopaedic Surgeon for their initial appointment, even though many were unlikely to require surgery. This resulted in long delays in the high demand service,” Ms Schubert said. ....

Nation-leading reform and further legislative amendments will be explored to address and prevent domestic and family violence in South Australia.
Attorney-General Vickie Chapman has outlined initiatives the Marshall Liberal Government is investigating, which will build on the meaningful action it has already taken.
