IHCAS makes large donation to health care
A huge thank you to the 142 volunteers at the Invermere Health Care Auxiliary Society (IHCAS) for another amazing donation to health care in the East Kootenay!
These funds will go to purchase equipment for the Invermere and District Hospital, Columbia Houses, and the Golden and District Hospital.
This donation comes from the proceeds from their Thrift Store located in Invermere. These amazing volunteers worked through COVID, pivoting the way they did business, and continued to be successful in keeping their doors open and their volunteers and customers safe.
Great job everyone and thank you for you dedication and hard work! Be sure to visit the IHCAS Thrift Shop in Invermere and thank them for all that they do! ....

Over $50k granted as CFKR grows endowment funds
The Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies (CFKR) has recently completed its largest ever annual granting program, allocating a total of $53,300.19 to 41 community projects/initiatives.
In addition, a total of $32,730.77 has been re-invested in the principals of 17 endowment funds, to grow future granting.
“The Community Foundation is thrilled to support the excellent work of these local non-profit organizations that contribute so much to each of our communities, especially during the current pandemic,” stated Lynnette Wray, CFKR Executive Director.
The Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies (CFKR) provided 2021 grants to a wide range of community projects and programs. All grant applications were reviewed by CFKR’s local volunteer committees, with granting decisions ratified by the CFKR Board. ....

Obituary for Frances Lawrenow

APRIL 23, 1937 – APRIL 26, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce, after eight weeks in hospital following a stroke, that Fran, a wife, mother, baba, sister, aunt and dear friend to many, passed away peacefully at the Cranbrook Hospital on April 26, 2021, just days after her 84th birthday. She will be sorely missed.
Fran is survived by her loving husband Sam, married for one month short of 60 years. She is also survived by her two daughters, Sandra (Kevin) and Patricia (Dan), her six grandchildren, Megan, Brianne, Colton (Andrea), Mikayla (Brady), Annalise and Elena, her eldest sister Nell, brother/sister-in-laws Anne (Alec), Mabel (Peter) and Alec and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Andrew (2003) and Mary (1991), her in-laws William (2007) and Vera (1997), her sister Valerie (2018), brother-in-laws John (1999) and William (1998) sister-in-law Liz (1999), nieces Sheila (2017) and Cathy (2020), and nephews Terry ....

EKFH campaign gets unexpected early Christmas gift
The East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH) kicked off its 2020 Starlite Campaign November 1 in support of Foundry East Kootenay. Thank you to the generous donations of individuals and businesses the campaign has raised over $200,000 towards their $1.4 million goal.
Foundry East Kootenay will be a walk-in health and wellness centre for youth ages 12-24 seeking help, primarily for mental health and substance use. Services such as primary care, counselling, substance use and peer support will be brought together with social services that include employment and education resources under one roof. For youth there will be no waitlists. No having to repeat their story multiple times. They will access help the day they walk through the doors. ....
