KAST bids farewell to executive director Sean Smillie

 The Kootenay Association for Science and Technology (KAST) congratulates Executive Director, Sean Smillie, on his return to the video game industry for an exciting new role as an executive producer for a Quebec and Los Angeles-based game studio. The Board will miss Smillie’s driven nature and positive leadership and appreciates his continued support while Smillie and the KAST Board of Directors complete a practical and seamless transition plan. The transition plan will be announced in the coming weeks.
Smillie affected change for both the tech and non-tech businesses in the Kootenay region during his time at KAST. KAST has worked diligently over the last year to support hundreds of non-tech businesses through B.C. Tech Association’s Virtual Connection Days and Innovate B.C.’s Digital Economy: Rapid Response and Resiliency (DER3) program, and supported Kootenay tech companies affected by COVID-19 through ....

The Kootenay Association for Science and Technology (KAST) and Selkirk College’s Applied Research and Innovation Centre (ARIC) have been working together to measure the tech sector’s impact and its economic health within the region. KAST is thrilled to present the Kootenay Technology Sector Assessment 2020, the first of its kind in the region.
This report assesses the tech sector’s business climate in the region and gives an overview of the local workforce. A free event exploring careers in creative fields
using science and technology will be offered to Kootenay student-aged youth as part of the National Science Odyssey Campaign.
Creative Thinkers: Artists Thrive with Science & Technology, will take place on Saturday, May 15, at 10 a.m. The event for Kootenay youth, aged 12 to 18-years old, will focus on the significant outcomes when creatives integrate and use STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to produce their work in an applied art or creative design field.
Creative Thinkers has been developed to engage young people interested in the creative disciplines, but are also science and technology-focused. GLOWS (Growing & Learning Opportunities with STEAM) encourages the next generation to combine elements of art and creative design with STEM-based thinking to become tomorrow’s leaders. ....
