The initiative, which was launched on Friday in Lilongwe by Minister of Civic Education, Timothy Mtambo, is expected to assist in ensuring that the country’s citizens are knowledgeable of the obligations and functions of the state which it executes through its ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

Some local disability organisations in Malawi have pleaded for inclusivity of the persons with disabilities in the newly National Preparedness and Response Strategic Plan which is currently being drafted by The Presidential Task Force on Covid-19.

The organisations which are under the Federation of Disability Organisations in Malawi (FEDOMA) and others registered by the Non Governmental Organisations made the remarks on Friday, February 5 2021 during a virtual (Zoom) meeting organised by the Visual Hearing Impairment Association (VIHEMA) which advocates for people with deaf and blind disabilities with the fund from Disability Rights Fund. ....

Albino Killings Inquiry Report Submitted to Chakwera

The commission of inquiry set up to probe attacks on people with albinism has submitted the report to President Lazarus Chakwera.
The president made the revelation when he held an interface meeting with officials from the Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA) at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre.
Among other things, Chakwera has promised to join the narrative and projects meant to end challenges people with albinism face.
He has also promised to advocate for review and adoption of laws that aim at creating a conducive environment for people with various forms of disabilities.
FEDOMA Acting Executive Director, Simeon Munde, said with the Tonse Alliance administration expectations are high on the change of welfare of people with disabilities. ....
