Kota Kinabalu: Thirteen associations in Sabah appealed to the State Government to hear their concerns on the imprompt promulgation of Minimum Housing Act 446 - Employees’ Minimum Standards of Housing Accommodations & Amenities Act under the Emergency Ordinance, that was extended to Sabah and Sarawak effective Feb. 26, this year.

Consolidation hubs to be set up along Pan Borneo Highway to boost Sabah's logistics, says Dr Wee


PETALING JAYA: The Transport Ministry will set up consolidation hubs along the Pan Borneo Highway to develop the network to transport and distribute goods between Sabah s ports and airports, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Transport Minister said the plan was part of the Federal Government s implementation of the Logistics and Trade Facilitation Masterplan.
“The consolidation hubs, among which, are located in Sandakan, Lahad Datu and Tawau.
“We will continue to engage industry players to identify locations that will give optimum impact to Sabah s logistics ecosystem,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Feb 18).
Dr Wee had a virtual meeting earlier with Sabah logistic industrial players that was initiated by Sabah Logistics Forum (SLF) chairman Datuk Ng Kiat Min, who is also the managing director of Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd. ....

Analyst: Removal of cabotage exemption may scare foreign telcos investors | Daily Express Online

Kuala Lumpur: Revocation of the cabotage exemption that allows foreign vessels to conduct undersea cable repairs in Malaysian waters might scare foreign investors away from investing in telecommunications and internet infrastructure in Malaysia, according to a research analyst.
Amanda Yeo of EMIR Research feared this could happen despite the fact that the government will triple the bandwidth capacity of the Sistem Kabel Rakyat Malaysia (SKRM) submarine cable linking West and East Malaysia.
“This is especially prominent in Sabah, a Malaysian state with a relatively higher cost of living as the cabotage policy was implemented in Sabah and Sarawak for a whole range of foreign goods and services, not just undersea cable repairs prior to 2017,” she said. ....
