Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) president Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo on Friday appealed to the Sindh government to reconsider the lockdown decision.
FPCCI president said the country’s economic hub Karachi should not be completely shut down. He said industries should be allowed to open seven days a week. The lockdown decision will destroy the industry.
FPCCI president Mian Naser Hyatt Maggo expressed these views in response to the Sindh government’s decision to impose another immediate lockdown on Friday which will take effect from today till 8th August. ....

Trade bodies reject Sindh government's move to increase minimum wage

KCCI-karachi-chamber-of-commerce-IndustryTrade bodies including the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) have rejected the Sindh government’s move to increase minimum wages by 43 percent and called it an unconstitutional step with negative consequences.
The KCCI issued a statement here and said industries of Sindh particularly of Karachi were highly aggrieved and perturbed by the Sindh government’s move to increase the minimum wage from Rs17,500 to Rs25,000 without following due process of law and contrary to the provisions of Sindh Minimum Wage Act 2015 and ILO’s minimum wages fixation convention 1970.
The increase in the minimum wage would make industries of Sindh uncompetitive and unviable to operate, not locally but also globally, it stated, adding that minimum wage in the centre and Punjab was Rs20,000 while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan it was Rs21,000 and the minimum wages fixed by Sindh were not equita ....

FPCCI expresses concerns on SBP’s contractionary monetary policy stance

KARACHI: A key industry body on Wednesday said the central bank s move to keep interest rate unchanged at 7 percent disappointed businesses that believed lower rate would help boost economy in pandemic and lockdowns.
Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo, president Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry said the recently announced monetary policy is the continuation of the contractionary monetary policies adopted by the State Bank of Pakistan since over a year .
Keeping the interest rate at 7 percent unchanged is not appropriate at this time when the government is taking strict measures of lockdown and limiting economic activities of all segments of the economy, Maggo said in a statement. ....
