Hundreds more apprenticeships and traineeships will be created across Central Queensland, according to Federal Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd under the $1.2bn Boosting Apprenticeships program.
The Federal Government announced the expansion of the targeted wage subsidy program on Tuesday as part of the National Economic Recovery Plan.
Mr O’Dowd said the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements BAC wage subsidy program was now fully subscribed, helping to create 100,000 apprenticeships in less than five months.

He said now the program would become demand driven for the next 12 months for apprentices and trainees signed up before September 30, 2021. ....

Collateral damage: Facebook ban wipes out a decade of work

Gympie councillor Bruce Devereaux has hit out at Facebook s nuclear news ban, saying the tech giant s behaviour was poor after his personal blog Big Family Little Income was wiped out as collateral damage by the company.
The blog about the trials and tribulations of his family, and occasionally spruiking products, was among the non-media pages caught in the crossfire when Facebook attempted to wipe news from its platform Australia-wide last week.
The ban was in response to a new law making its way through parliament requiring the company to pay news outlets for content.
However, it also meant a decade of Mr Devereaux s work was wiped out. ....

Roads, parks and lanes got surprise $880K Christmas present

BALLINA Shire Council has discovered they have been allocated an extra $880,000 of Federal Government funding for road reconstruction on top of the original $1.76 million announced last year.
Paul Hickey, the council s general manager, said it brought the actual allocation of funds up to $2.64 million.
He said the Federal Government s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program was part of the COVID-19 stimulus program.
Our understanding at the December meeting was that the allocation for Ballina was $1.76 million, and we though that included the first round of $880,000, but now we realised that was on top, so it s a lot of money, he said. ....
