Memphis to seek power proposals to potentially split with TVA

Apr. 9 Six months after initially rejecting the idea, the Memphis City Council has approved a plan to solicit energy proposals to potentially replace the Tennessee Valley Authority with another power source.
The move could ultimately cost TVA its biggest customer in six years and cut more than $1 billion in annual revenues for America s biggest government utility. But backers of the move claim it could end up cutting electricity bills for nearly 430,000 customers while potentially supplying greener energy in the Memphis area.
At the urging of the city-owned utility Memphis, Light, Gas and Water (MLGW), the city council in Memphis this week unanimously approved a $520,000 contract with GDS Associates in Atlanta to prepare plans to solicit power supply offers from other utilities and independent power producers outside of the Tennessee Valley. Dismas House adds two VPs | Nashville Post

Nashville-based nonprofit Dismas House of Nashville has added LoLita Toney as vice president of development and Phillip Hill as vice president of operations.
The two join an executive team that includes former board chair and interim CEO Kay Kretsch and Dr. Julie Doochin, VP of programs. The two positions are new to Dismas House, which was founded in by the late Father Jack Hickey, a Vanderbilt University chaplain, and provides housing and support services to formerly incarcerated men.
Toney (pictured) previously served as director of development and chief of staff at the National Museum of African American Music. Prior to that, she worked in higher education, leading fundraising and community relations efforts at Meharry Medical College, Belmont University and Fisk University. Her nonprofit board leadership includes stints with the YWCA Junior Board, Nashville Cable, Nashville CARES, the Greater Nashville Chapter of the National Black MBA Ass ....
