Nearly five months after the January 6 Capitol riot, at least 17 police officers remain out of work due to injuries sustained during the attack.
At least 10 Capitol Police officers were out with injuries as of Thursday, according to a source on Capitol Hill and at the police union, while as of Friday, seven members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police force remained in a less than full duty status due to the events of the riot, a police spokesperson said.

WASHINGTON The union representing U.S. Capitol Police officers issued a stinging rebuke of department leadership Wednesday, arguing the organization’s top brass failed to relay key information to officers in advance of the Jan. 6 riot that left personnel with severe brain injuries, and one who is going to lose an eye, according to reports.
Capitol Police Labor Committee responds
Capitol Police Labor Committee Chairman Gus Papathanasiou responded in a statement to what he described as a “startling admission” made by Chief Yogananda D. Pittman before the House Appropriations Committee that “angered and shocked the rank-and-file officers,” Fox News reported.
