Four killed in separate accidents Driver responsible for accident managed to escape the scene along with vehicle KARACHI: According to details, a speeding vehicle hit a motorcyclist near Siemens Chowrangi in the site area. The motorcyclist was seriously injured in the accident. As soon as the accident was reported, rescue officials reached to the spot and the seriously injured youth was being shifted to the hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on the way. Rescue officials said that the deceased was identified as Moeezf Akram. He was about 22 years old. The driver responsible for the accident managed to escape from the scene along with the vehicle. Police are investigating the incident further. ....
THIS is apropos the news report ‘Burnes Road to remain traffic-free in evenings’ (Jan 7). The city administration has announced to keep the food district ‘traffic-free’ in the evenings to provide a better environment to the people at the eateries in the vicinity. This means that vehicular traffic from Fresco Chowk to Court Road will be closed from 7pm onwards, and traffic coming from Arambagh will be diverted to M.A. Jinnah Road and People’s Square. It is one of the city’s busiest areas and works as a junction to the roads leading to Sharah-i-Liaquat and M.A. Jinnah Road. ....

The demonstrators called for immediate action from the federal and provincial governments. The protests also badly crippled city life, hitting the traffic movement and forcing rescheduling of a few flights. Rail and air traffic was seriously affected owing to the sit-ins being staged at different places in the city to express solidarity with the Mach victims. The sit-ins were expanded to a number of neighbourhoods including Sharea Faisal, Malir 15 and Teen Talwar, in the city, blocking traffic on main roads. The main sit-in was being held at Numaish. ....
