Renowned politician Celestin Dajamen has announced he is resigning from the Cameroon Renaissance Movement of Professor Maurice Kamto.
Celestin Djamen made the announcement on Monday, December 14 at a press conference in Douala where he said the Cameroon Renaissance Movement has not listened to him.
His resignation did not come as a surprise after regularly criticising the party on its decision to boycott last February Municipal and Legislative elections.
“When we are in a republic we are either for weapons or for the ballot box. I chose the ballot box, things are changing with the fight we are leading. The boycott policy has never been a solution,” Celestin Djamen said. ....

Cameroon Withdraws Troops From Opposition Leader s Residence

Government troops have lifted a blockade on the residence of Cameroon opposition figure Maurice Kamto, an official of his Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC) party confirmed to The EastAfrican on Wednesday.
Barrister Emmanuel Simh, vice president of MRC and Kamto s lawyer, said law enforcement officers who have been camping around residence left on Tuesday.
I cannot say whether Prof Kamto is free to leave his house, but the security forces left the premises of his residence yesterday (Tuesday, December 8), Mr Simh said.
The opposition leader had been under house arrest since September 22 when he called for street protests against the convening of the first-ever election of regional councillors in the country. Several other people were arrested during protests in different cities of the Central African country. ....

The Non-Governmental Organization Amnesty International which promotes respect of human rights have called on the Cameroon Government to end mass arbitrary arrests and detentions of members of the opposition parties.
In a report published Wednesday December 9, the organization says at least 500 people were arrested on September 22 during the nationwide protest organized by the Cameroon Renaissance Movement party to demand the departure of President Paul Biya.
The NGO adds that among the 500 arrested, 160 remain in detention, meanwhile 13 have been sentenced to prison by civilian courts, and 14 appeared before a military court as at November 25. ....
