Dragon Quest fans will have a lot to look forward to as Square Enix announced six Dragon Quest games during its 35th anniversary special including the next core role-playing game in the beloved series.
27/05/21 Square Enix has officially announced Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate, capping off an announcement-filled 35th anniversary stream…. with a dramatic looking logo. A release date has not been stated, and Square Enix also has not confirmed any platforms that Dragon Quest XII will be coming to, and there was no trailer or teaser shown outside of a logo: – ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW – While they were pretty tight lipped about the game, Square Enix did confirm a handful of intriguing elements. For one thing, the game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, which does seem to imply that we might have a bit of a wait for its release, and it is under the direction of DQXI’s director Takeshi Uchikawa.
Dragon Quest Celebrates Turning 35 With New Game Announcements Dragon Quest, one of the most influential and successful JRPG franchises is celebrating its 35th birthday today. In celebration of this milestone birthday Square Enix announced three new titles that are in early stages of development that will have the same global release date, which are Dragon Quest XII, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and Dragon Quest Treasures. In addition to these titles, a mobile puzzle game with the working title Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi (final name TBD) was announced during the livestream, which has been archived for viewing here. Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi is a free to play mobile game for Android and iOS that features characters and monsters from Dragon Quest games to erase graffiti. The teaser trailers for the other three aforementioned games can be viewed below.
27/05/21 Square Enix has announced a remake of Dragon Quest III in HD-2D, fusing the classic JRPG with the game engine created for Octopath Traveler. – ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW – At this time, there’s no word on which platforms Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will be coming to, and there’s also no indication on when it will release, but Square Enix note that it is “planned for simultaneous release on home consoles worldwide.” The game is in development by AMATA K.K. and Team Asano. Dragon Quest 3 was originally released for the Famicom in 1988, selling over one million copies on its first day of release in Japan. Over the years it has been remade and ported to a number of later consoles, first with the 1996 SNES port, a Game Boy Color adaptation of the original release, and more modern ports to the Wii, 3DS, PS4, Switch, and more.

Dragon Quest 12 and Dragon Quest 3 Remake Announced / Square Enix announced several new Dragon Quest games are coming soon, including a new game, a remake, and several other spin-offs. We’re getting quite a few new titles, with the most important probably being the new game, Dragon Quest XII, and the 2D/3D remake of Dragon Quest 3. Considering it was the flagship game announced, we got comparatively little information about Dragon Quest XII. The teaser trailer just shows the logo — no release dates, no gameplay footage, not even any story details. We know the subtitle will be “The Flames of Fate,” but not much beyond that. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is coming to unspecified consoles, Square Enix said in a news release. Here’s a look at Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake in action: Square Enix also revealed Dragon Quest Treasures, a spinoff of Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Players will take on the roles of siblings Mia and Erik and “embark on an RPG treasure hunting adventure in another world.” The game is set before the events of Dragon Quest 11. Finally, there’s Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi, a free-to-play mobile puzzle game for iOS and Android that will include characters and monsters from the Dragon Quest franchise as ... adorable erasers. Players erase graffiti in the game, which you can see teased in the trailer below.
