The Royal College of Nursing is seeking to “regain the confidence” of nurses around reducing unnecessary glove use in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.
Today marks the start of the college’s annual Glove Awareness Week, which runs until 7 May and also coincides with World Hand Hygiene Day on 5 May.
“We know there are many occasions even within the pandemic where we can still reduce gloves use safely”
Rose Gallagher
In an interview with
Nursing Times ahead of the campaign, Rose Gallagher, RCN professional lead for infection prevention and control, recognised that the pandemic had understandably driven a “significant increase in glove use” and that health workers remained “very frightened of Covid-19”.
