Jul 13, 2021 Fertilizer Prices Increasing And what about other locally produced commodities? Will prices go up? This is a real concern in the agriculture industry. At the last House Meeting, Corozal North area rep Hugo Patt expressed concerns about the cost of fertilizers and what it would mean for the cost of production in the agricultural sector. Today, Agriculture Minister says those concerns are valid. He says that while he hasn’t seen the increase at the store where he purchases fertilizers, he has received credible reports from importers that the prices may double and combined with the increasing cost of freight. Mai says that can mean a cost of production for farmers and ultimately an increase in consumer prices. ....

After several weeks of calculated, internal maneuvers to have him unseated as Leader of the Opposition, Sunday’s outcome can very well be the death knell in his bid to someday become prime minister of Belize. Over three hundred and fifty delegates are expected to participate in a recall convention this weekend, another carefully orchestrated move to oust Faber as party leader. Undoubtedly, the Collet Area Representative has also been on the campaign trail reaching out to delegates in an attempt to convince them that he is still the right choice at the helm of the floundering party. Apr 29, 2021 Eamon Courtenay Inside the Senate on Wednesday, Senator for Government Business Eamon Courtenay went into details about the land agreement between the Government of Belize and the Nature Conservancy. In his presentation, Senator Courtenay referred to the transaction as a “scandal” and estimated that inclusive of stamp duty write-offs, land tax write-offs, and speculation tax write offs, the former Minister of Land wrote off some six hundred million dollars in tax revenue payable to the government. And, according to Senator Courtenay, the former Minster of Lands executed the transaction only weeks before the 2021 general elections. These reports have of course raised eyebrows, considering the austere times Belizeans are facing. In response, Senator Peyrefitte asked for proof. ....
