Corvallis losing two key councilors

The Corvallis City Council that begins its new term Monday 4 will be the first without Barbara Bull since 2015 and the first that did not include Nancy Wyse since 2017.
Bull, who was originally elected in 2014, chose not to run for a fourth term. Wyse, who defeated the late Joel Hirsch, then a four-term incumbent, in 2016, has won election to the Benton County Board of Commissioners and will be sworn in Monday.
Wyse replaces long-time Commissioner Annabelle Jaramillo on the three-person commission.
Bull and Wyse both performed in leadership positions on the council. Bull was council president during her second term, and Wyse was council VP in the most recent term. ....

Corvallis Co-op stores celebrating 50 years

Fifty years ago, an experiment in grocery marketing began in 1970 in a house on Fourth Street in Corvallis.
The First Alternative Co-op moved shortly thereafter to South Third Street and added a store on Northwest Grant Avenue in 2003.
Fast-forward to 2020 and the co-op is thriving, with 159 staff members and 12,000 owners.
On a rainy recent Wednesday, the Gazette-Times visited the south store. The parking lot was close to full, the produce was shiny as always and a steady stream of masked customers were filling their carts.
âFirst Alternative has always been more than a grocery store to its owners and shoppers,â said General Manager Cindee Lolik. âA key factor to the growth of the co-op has been the ongoing change in the way people view what they put into their bodies and the bodies of their families. Not only for personal health reasons, but for the health of the local farms and farm workers, the health of the planet, and the health of our communit ....
