CHENNAI: The Chennai seaport customs on Saturday seized 7.4 metric tonnes of prohibited red sanders consignment worth Rs 5.60 crore, destined to Taiwan under the guise of pavement stones, according to a release. Working on specific intelligence about smuggling of red sanders to South East Asian countries from where ultimately it lands to China, having largest international market for this endangered species, Customs officers under Special Intelligence and Investigation Branch (SIIB) gathered intelligence across the seaport area, Container Freight Stations (CFSs) and around the places for over a week. ....

Gateway Distriparks fourth-quarter net jumps four-fold to Rs 46.60 crore

Integrated inter-modal logistics company Gateway Distriparks has reported an about four-fold increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 46.60 crore for the March quarter on the back of strong recovery in throughput and realisations.
The company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 11.69 crore in Q4 FY20, according to a statement.
Total income rose 16.1 per cent to Rs 353.11 crore as against Rs 304.18 crore in the March quarter of fiscal 2019-20.
The company operates four container freight stations at Navi Mumbai, Chennai, and Krishnapatnam. Two container freight stations are being operated at Kochi and Visakhapatnam through its subsidiaries, Gateway Distriparks (Kerala) Ltd and Gateway East India Pvt Ltd, respectively. ....

LUDHIANA: A day after seizing a huge cache of imported sports shoes and other wrongly-declared goods worth over Rs 1 crore, Ludhiana-based zonal unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized two containers that were lying at Container Freight Station, Overseas Warehousing Private Limited, (CFS-OWPL), Ramgarh.
These two containers were said to be carrying scrap, but more than 100 multifunction printers (MFPs) of leading brands were found stuffed inside.
As per the preliminary investigation by the department, so far 72 MFPs have been found in one container and the examination of the other was on till the filing of this report. The value of the confiscated goods as of now was reported to be around Rs 1 crore, but would increase as it was being suspected there were 150 MFPs in both the containers. ....

Banned photocopy machines seized

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized banned photocopy machines worth crores after searching two containers, which came from Dubai.
Three months ago, on the orders of Additional Director General, DRI, Nitin Saini, Ludhiana officials had confiscated the containers for evading custom duty.
Patiala-based firm Khalsa Enterprises had kept these containers at Container Freight Station (CFS), Ramgarh, and had not got them released since December 27, 2020.
In the papers it was mentioned that the containers were containing metal scrap but when the same were checked, they contained metal scrap on the top but under them, there were 60 old photostat machines. This is known as e-waste and it is illegal to be brought into the country. The market value of the machines is worth crores. The department will also be searching the past records of the company. ....
