Sri Lanka's COVID-19 fatalities rises to 323 on 01st of February

Colombo (News 1st);  The Director General of Health Services confirmed seven (07) deaths caused by Covid-19 virus infection. 
Accordingly, the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 infection in Sri Lanka is 323. 
The deceased is a
75-year-old female from Wattala. She was transferred from Colombo North Teaching Hospital to the Base Hospital Mulleriyawa where she died on 31.01.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as a kidney disease complicated by Covid 19 infection and a stroke due to blood poisoning.
The deceased is a
69-year-oldmale from Nugegoda. He was diagnosed as infected with Covid 19 and transferred from Apeksha Hospital Maharagama to the base hospital Homagama where he died on 01.02.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid pneumonia and a cancer. ....

LankaWeb – 5,286 frontline healthcare workers receive Covid vaccine

A total of 5,286 frontline healthcare workers have received the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on the first day of coronavirus vaccination drive which kicked off in Sri Lanka today (29).
Approximately 1,886 persons were administered the vaccine at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, 803 persons at Colombo North Teaching Hospital, 781 at Colombo South Teaching Hospital, 600 at Army Hospital and 400 at Army Camp Panagoda.
Another 382 were vaccinated at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children, 190 at Homagama Base Hospital, 108 at Mulleriyawa Base Hospital, 80 at IDH and 56 at the Welisara Navy Camp. 
The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health stated that health staff and other frontline workers in Covid-19 prevention activities attended very enthusiastically” for the immunization programme.  ....

COVID-19 VACCINATION IN SL BEGINS TODAY (29)


– Infectious Disease Hospital in Angoda.
The vaccination drive will begin at 9:00 am today (29).
“Whilst the vaccination drive begins in Colombo today, doses of the vaccine are being transported to other parts of the country as well,” Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, the State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control told News 1st.
The vaccination of frontline healthcare workers, personnel of the Tri-Forces and Police will take around one week.
According to the State Minister, all district hospitals and MOH offices where COVID-19 vaccination will take place, were already instructed on the procedure; thereby, vaccination will begin outside the Western province as soon as the hospitals and MOH offices receive the jabs. ....

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka on Friday launched its national coronavirus immunisation campaign by administering the first shots to frontline health workers, soldiers and security personnel, a day after India gifted 500,000 doses of Covishield vaccine to the island nation.
Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Thursday thanked India for its generosity after he received 500,000 doses of Covishield vaccine donated by the country under the Neighbourhood First policy.
The consignment was packed in 42 boxes.
Rajapaksa was joined at the airport by the Indian envoy in Colombo Gopal Baglay. ....
