Essential maintenance works for Mildura Weir

Essential maintenance works will be conducted at the Mildura Weir from 12 July, which will involve lowering the river level in the weir pool and closing Lock 11 for about three weeks, the Murray-Darling Basin Authority and Goulburn-Murray Water announced on 24 May.
MDBA Executive Director River Management, Andrew Reynolds said Lock 11 was one of the busiest on the Murray River, so timing of the works was agreed after taking on board feedback from tourism operators, irrigators, and the Mildura Rural City Council.
“The Murray River is vital to the region’s economy and recreation, so we have scheduled the works to begin after the school holidays but before the irrigation season to try to minimise the inconvenience to the community as much as we can,” Mr Reynolds said. ....

A new Great Lake Touring Route, iconic walking trails, fine dining and more accommodation options are part of a new plan to take Lake Eildon to the next level as a tourist destination.
Minister for Regional Development Mary-Anne Thomas joined representatives from Mansfield and Murrindindi shire councils, Goulburn Murray Water and Tourism North East today to launch the
Lake Eildon Masterplan.
The plan, supported by $150,000 from the Andrews Labor Government’s
Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund, has identified four “game-changers” for Lake Eildon that have the potential to unlock significant investment in tourism and enable Lake Eildon to become one of Victoria’s premier destinations. ....

Northern Victorian sunshine and access to the electricity grid seem to be the factors that have attracted such intense solar interest in the region.
“The area of northern Victoria from Shepparton north-west to Mildura has been the location for most of Victoria’s solar farms built to date,” Environment Victoria Senior Climate Campaigner Taegen Edwards said.
“Recently there’s been some grid congestion in the north-west of Victoria that has impacted solar farms and this may explain why more have been proposed further to the east.”
“We urgently need to transition away from old, polluting coal power stations to clean renewable energy. Australia is one of the sunniest places in the world and northern Victoria has the best solar resources in the state.” ....
