Date Time Prescribed burns today at Cotter River and Tidbinbilla The ACT Parks and Conservation Service wishes to advise that, subject to suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions, a prescribed burn will start today (12 April 2021) at Cotter River. The 1190 ha Pipeline Burn along the Cotter River is being undertaken to assist in the protection of the Cotter Water Catchment. A 2 ha cultural burn at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve also continues today to improve grass tree health and protect cultural assets. Experienced ACT Parks and Conservation fire managers will conduct and oversee the burning operation. Every effort is made to conduct burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke, but temporary smoke cover is possible and maybe visible across parts of Canberra. ....

SITTING behind the huge concrete dams of Canberra right now is around 270 billion litres of water, or the equivalent of 100,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Three of the four main dams of Canberra, the Cotter, Corin, and Bendora are all sitting at 100 per cent capacity. Googong Dam, upstream from Queanbeyan, is the only one holding below its full capacity at 95 per cent. ....
