Conestoga Meat Packers to receive $150K to improve safety, production

Breslau s Conestoga Meat Packers will receive $150,000 in funding to upgrade equipment in order to improve production and safety at the plant.
In a new release on Monday, Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Mike Harris announced the funds as part of a joint $7 million investment by the provincial and federal government to increase production and efficiency in meat processing plants.
“On top of COVID-19, limited processing capacity has presented numerous challenges for Waterloo Region’s farmers,” said Harris. “This investment will help alleviate some of those pressures by increasing productivity at Conestoga Meats while also making the jobs of their employees safer and easier.” ....

Food processing plant hit with second COVID-19 outbreak

Public health has confirmed a food processing workplace in Waterloo Region is currently going through its second COVID-19 outbreak.
Listed as food processing 1 on the Region of Waterloo Public Health COVID-19 dashboard, there have been 88 cases attributed to the active outbreak at the workplace.
There are 88 cases in total of which 77 are now resolved, said a spokesperson for the Region of Waterloo. Of the 88, 34 have been assessed to be community-acquired and 54 have an acquisition source that is unknown and some could have been the workplace.
Public health says it is working closely with the workplace, adding that the company has made significant efforts to help decrease spread amongst employees outside the workplace. ....
