Guest worker dies in police custody | Coimbatore News


Coimbatore: A 40-year-old guest worker allegedly died in custody at Karumathampatti police station on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Satendra Prasad Bhuiya of Dhanbad district in Jharkhand. “He had started to work as a cook for guest workers at Kumar Nagar in Karumathampatti three days ago. On Monday around 4am, he allegedly attempted to break into a house at Kumar Nagar. Inmates raised an alarm and the neighbours caught him. They thrashed him and tied him up. A team of Karumathampatti police brought him to the station. He became unconscious around 7.40am and was rushed to a government hospital at Somanur. But doctors declared him as brought dead,” a police officer said ....

Prisoner dies at CMCH | Coimbatore News - Times of India

COIMBATORE: A remand prisoner, who allegedly developed health complications, died without responding to treatment at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Sekar, 57, from Elk Hill Road in Udhagamandalam.
Police said Sekhar was an accused in connection with the murder of a woman in Nilgiris district last month.
Sekar was arrested by police and he was lodged at the Gudalur sub-jail.
Later, he was shifted to the Coimbatore central prison where he developed health complications on Sunday around 10am.
Prison authorities said that he was a diabetic.
The Race Course police registered a case and further investigation is on. Postmortem will be conducted on Monday. ....

Elephant attacks forest dept driver | Coimbatore News


Coimbatore: A forest department driver was injured after a wild elephant attacked him near Vaidehi falls checkpost on Monday night. He suffered severe injuries on both his legs and was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital.
The driver, Vijayakumar, 54, of Vadivelampalayam near Alandurai, was working on contract basis with the eco-tourism centre at Kovai Courtallam. He was attached to the Boluvampatti forest range. Forest department officials said Vijayakumar took leave from work on Monday. However, he had gone to the checkpost located on the way to Vaidehi waterfalls near Narasipuram. Around 9.30pm, the frontline staff of the forest department were chasing a male elephant from human habitations to the reserve forest area. ....
