Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Small Scale Industries Association (Codissia) has urged chief minister M K Stalin to extend financial support to small and micro units to overcome hurdles posed by the Covid lockdown.
Codissia president Ramesh Babu, who participated in a meeting chaired by Stalin in Chennai on Sunday to discuss about Covid prevention, urged the state government to impress upon the Centre for loan moratorium. Codissia would support the state government initiatives like the present round of lockdown for Covid prevention, Babu said. “There are a lot of export-oriented industries in Coimbatore, which are allowed to function even during the lockdown. At the same time, there are several units that need to remain closed. These units face a lot of problems. Financial support through Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation will be helpful,” he said at the meeting. “If the state urges the Centre for a loan moratorium, it will be helpful for many small indus ....

Enforce Covid norms: Corpn chief | Coimbatore News

Coimbatore: Commercial establishments that repeatedly fail to follow Covid-19 norms will be shut for a week, corporation commissioner Kumaravel Pandian said on Thursday.
“All commercial establishments, including grocery shops, should check body temperature of employees and customers. Oxygen saturation level should be recorded using pulse oximeter. They should ensure that staff and customers wear masks properly and maintain social distancing. Establishments that fail to do so will face heavy fine and will be shutdown. Teams to inspect establishments in the city are already in place. Flying squads will also be formed for this purpose,” Pandian said.
As many as 220 people within corporation limits are testing positive daily. Eighteen wards have been identified as hotspots. ....

'Issue concessional certificate to importers without delay' | Coimbatore News

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Small Scale Industries Association (Codissia) has shot off a letter to Union minister for commerce and industry Piyush Goyal, asking him to ensure there was no delay from the part of the Export Inspection Agency (EIA) in issuing “certificate of origin”.
The certificate, the industrial body says, gives importers a concession on import duty, which they pass on to exporters.
According to the Codissia, there has, of late, been an undue delay in issuing the concessional duty certificates, affecting the flow of exporters’ fund.
M V Ramesh Babu, president, Codissia, says the preferential certificate of origin is a bilateral agreement between two countries. India has trade agreements with Korea, Sri Lanka, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), Asia Pacific and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) countries, among others. ....
