THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The district administration issued a show-cause notice to six private hospitals for not allotting 50% beds for Covid treatment on Tuesday.
District disaster management authority has communicated that if the hospital fails to furnish a satisfactory explanation, action under the Epidemic Disease Ordinance and Disaster Management Act will be taken against the hospital management.
The private hospitals were earlier directed to allot 50% of beds for Covid treatment owing to soaring number of cases in the district.
Deputy collector disaster management G K Suresh Kumar said that some of the hospitals failed to comply with the directive following which the show-cause notice was issued. ....

‘50% of beds not allotted for COVID patients’
The district administration has issued show-cause notices to six private hospitals for failing to adhere to its directive to apportion half of their available beds for COVID-19 patients.
The District Disaster Management Authority has threatened to initiate action under the Disaster Management Act and the Kerala Epidemic Diseases Ordinance if the institutions failed to furnish satisfactory explanation within 24 hours.
District Collector Navjot Khosa had instructed private hospitals to reserve 50% of beds in their institutions for COVID-19 treatment.
Private institutions were roped in by the district administration to contain the surge in COVID-19 cases. ....

With the daily COVID-19 caseload in the district inching closer to the 1,000-mark, the district administration is pulling out all stops to find hospital beds for patients.
As part of maximising treatment facilities, it has been decided to set aside 20% of the beds in private hospitals in the district for COVID-19 patients, District Collector Navjot Khosa said after holding discussions with private hospitals here on Monday. The decision will ensure availability of about 1,000 beds in 24 private hospitals in the district for COVID-19 patients. ....
