Creston Valley Tourism Society hires long time local Jesse Willicome as Tourism Coordinator

The Valley has a new Tourism Coordinator and a familiar face in Jesse Willicome.
Hired by the Creston Valley Tourism Society (CVTS), Willicome carries the momentum of his projects he had already started while working through Factor 5 Consulting. He also worked directly with the Town of Creston and other local organizations to consolidate resources, making Creston more tourist-friendly.
“It has been an interesting year,” said Willicome. “The Society had much more ambitious plans in 2020 to hit the ground running. Of course, that wasn’t possible. So with support from the Creston Valley Kootenay Lake Economic Action Partnership, we kept a more low profile. Really planning long term, and to promote having residents support local businesses.” ....

The largest of the empty reservoirs atop Crawford Hill was once an immense empty space. Now it is a manageable pond having been filled with dirt from the Creston Emergency Services Building site and naturally flowing water. (Supplied by Jensen Shields)
Though nature did slowly begin to reclaim Creston’s ageing reservoir infrastructure, the Town decided to move forward with giving it a helping hand.
Wetland and ponds are key factors in biodiversity. What stood as empty pits for years will now grow into unique biomes for plants, animals and creatures, warm and cold-blooded alike. ....

Trust supports trail improvements with nearly $500k
Trails around the Columbia Basin will see upgrades and additions this spring to make them safer and more accessible.
This is thanks to 25 new projects that are receiving nearly $500,000 from Columbia Basin Trust’s Trail Enhancement Grants.
“Basin residents have told us that outdoor recreation opportunities are essential for their physical and mental well-being,” said Michelle d’Entremont, Manager of Delivery of Benefits with the Columbia Basin Trust. “With more people staying and exploring their local surroundings, these projects will provide greater access to rehabilitated and new trails so we can continue to enjoy and benefit from them.” ....
