Sunset Hills will take over 911 dispatching for Crestwood in collaboration with police

Sunset Hills will start providing police dispatching services for neighboring Crestwood this July, after aldermen in both sister cities approved a contract this month that holds neither liable if things go wrong.
The Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen unanimously approved a $135,000 annual contract May 11 to provide police and 911 dispatching services for the Crestwood Police Department starting in July, while the Crestwood Board of Aldermen also unanimously approved the contract in a special meeting May 18.
The funds could be used for a pay matrix.
The 3.5-year contract was jointly developed by Crestwood Police Chief Jonathan Williams, who just started in January, and Sunset Hills Chief Stephen Dodge, with a 3-percent increase each year starting Jan. 1, 2023. Sunset Hills would start dispatching for Crestwood July 1 to Dec. 31 for $67,500. The first full year, 2022, would cost $135,000, then 3-percent annual hikes top out at $143,221 in 2024. ....

Agreement for Sunset Hills to provide 911 dispatching for Crestwood hits roadblock

Crestwood and Sunset Hills may be sister cities, but the cities’ aldermen had opposite reactions to a proposal for Sunset Hills to provide 911 dispatching for Crestwood.
The Crestwood Board of Aldermen gave the police dispatching agreement unanimous preliminary approval with no comment in the consent agenda April 27, while the Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen had concerns with the proposal that stopped it on final passage.
Under the plan developed by Crestwood Police Chief Jonathan Williams and Sunset Hills Police Chief Stephen Dodge, the contract between the two neighboring cities would last 3.5 years, with a 3-percent increase each year starting Jan. 1, 2023. Sunset Hills communication officers would provide video monitoring of Crestwood’s Police Department, City Hall and holding cells, as well as non-emergency phone monitoring in non-business hours. ....

Crestwood Chief Ron Compton retires

The city of Crestwood said farewell to former Police Chief Ron Compton, who retired Oct. 14 after more than three decades of service with the Crestwood Police Department.
“Chief, your legacy of professionalism is going to be missed, as well as your guidance, your leadership and your good judgment,” said Mayor Grant Mabie at the virtual Board of Aldermen meeting Oct. 13, when aldermen passed a resolution unanimously honoring Compton.
“I never really thought about being in the position that I am in this evening. … I’ve been very fortunate because I have been able to fulfill the dream I had of being a police officer,” said Compton. “And to do it in such a good police department in such a wonderful city is just extra to me of something I couldn’t even imagine.” ....
