The four kits were brought to the animal shelter late last week, but staff didn t believe they were orphaned, the Humane Society said on Twitter. Their tummies were full, indicating their mother was nearby, the tweet reads. Members of the Animal Services team provided fluids to the nursery of raccoons before bringing them to the site where they were found. The cubs were returned at dusk while hungry so their cries would catch the mother s attention. GUELPH Pixie is a small dog with a big personality. She was found as a stray in Guelph back in March. They said she was likely hit by a car, and in need of life-saving surgery “Pixie initially arrived actually at an emergency veterinary clinic. They had to do surgery on one of her rear limbs, it had to be amputated,” said Sonia Maiorano, a Registered Veterinary Technician at the Guelph Humane Society. Arriving at the Guelph Humane Society about three weeks ago, Pixie begin her rehab journey to learn how to walk again. A video posted of those first few steps to the humane society s Facebook page has already racked up over 100,000 views in just six days. ....
Officials said their owner was no longer able to care for them. “We have some adults, some juveniles, and some little babies. We were surprised to find five brand new little babies,” said Samantha Westphal, the Animal Care Manager at the Guelph Humane Society. That number has grown to 30 and another female is due to give birth any day. Their rat pack will be close to 40 in the coming days. According to the humane society, rodents tend to have a bad rap which can make it harder to find them their homes. Westphal said there are a lot of misconceptions about rats as being unclear and unfriendly, but they are actually very social and easily trained. ....
