Auckland heritage railway makes plans for steam trains into downtown Waiuku

Te Ao - Māori News speaks with Roimata Minhinnick about teaming up with the Glenbrook Vintage Railway to bring Tāiki the steam engine to life for the whole whānau to enjoy.
Piling the bridge has been estimated at $625,000 and there are already plans being drawn for a reserve terminus.
Waiuku subdivision representative Sharlene Druyven said few people realised how much the railway contributed to the area’s economy.
“Thousands of people visit the area, bringing their tourist dollars, but the line ends short of the town and having it terminate at the reserve would be a major boost.” ....

At 111-years-old it s not often you get gifted another name to use, but that’s what happen to the Ww 480 steam engine being named Tāiki by the local iwi of Waiuku to celebrate at Matariki time.
Ngāti Te Ata and the Glenbrook Vintage Railway have teamed up to celebrate Te Mātahi o Te Tau (the Māori New Year) differently with Waiuku iwi ancestral names to remember the history of the area. ....

Christmas Trains back for 2020 and more popular than ever - Counties Power

The award-winning Counties Power Christmas Lights, Trains at Night event at Glenbrook Vintage Railway is back to light up Franklin with Christmas cheer. It’s already looking to far exceed the number of attendees as last year after three packed nights last weekend.
More than 3,700 have already jumped on board the Christmas Express, with five more nights, always the busiest leading up to Christmas, still to go. Online bookings are high for these last nights, with organisers urging locals to book online to beat the ticket queues. Last year 7,500 people attended the event in total.
Running again from tonight until 22 December, the event offers themed train rides, Santa, a Christmas market, food stalls and more. ....
