Private trainers push the county on re-opening efforts

Private personal trainers are calling on the county to have their backs amid the provincial Stage 1 relaunch.
During the Feb. 5 Emergency Advisory Committee (EAC) meeting, Ward 8 Coun. Katie Berghofer raised the concern of providing timely access for local private trainers who depend on county-owned facilities for their businesses. As of Monday, Feb. 8, the province allowed one-on-one scheduled personal training sessions to resume.

County rec facilities to remain closed

Regardless of some reopening baby steps made by the province this week for in-person dining and one-on-one personal training, recreational facilities in Strathcona County will remain closed.
In response to the provincial Step 1 relaunch, the Emergency Advisory Committee provided an update to council on Friday, Feb. 5, in which it outlined the county will accommodate restricted access for minor sport organizations to use select pools, arenas and indoor turf fields but with the target date of Feb. 16 (or earlier if possible). Timing will depend on group demand and how fast the county can rehire laid-off recreation staff.
