'Extraordinary': Sister city art presentation to go ahead

Sister cities Gladstone and Saiki, Japan, will begin the exchange of photographs at an annual event on Friday, and you are invited to attend.
Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum has invited the public to attend the 2021 Intercity Images Gladstone Saiki Photographic Exchange Presentation on May 21.
Gladstone Mayor Matt Burnett will be joined by Wendy Marsh (president of the Gladstone
Saiki Sister City Advisory Committee), Cameron Curd (manager and curator of GRAGM) and other guests at the presentation night, commencing from 6pm at GRAGM.
Gladstone councillor Glenn Churchill said the presentation night would celebrate the extraordinary photography on display, presentation of certificates to selected photographers and an informative curator’s talk. ....

Revealed: Several art events to receive $48k grant

Several community art programs will share more than $48,000, thanks to a recent funding approval from Gladstone Regional Council.
In a general meeting on May 4, Gladstone Regional Council heard 11 applications were received for the Regional Arts Development Fund Round One for 2020-21.
Councillors voted unanimously to fund seven of the 11 applications.
Gladstone Independent Schools Music Association, Boyne Tannum Arts Business Community Association, Ping Carlyon, Sharon Hare, Kathryn Apel, Luke Graham and Rosedale State School will share $48,685.97 for art projects across the region.
General manager Community Development and Events Kylie Lee said a majority of the applications were of “very high calibre”. ....

Saiki exhibit gives Gladstone kids a taste of Japanese life

The sister-city relationship will be solidified in the Gladstone region’s youth when they take a glimpse into the lives of Japanese children at the Saiki Children’s day exhibition.
Born in 1996, the sister-city relationship between Gladstone and Saiki City was established as part of a global movement to focus on community values and international understanding, encouraging world peace.
Situated on the eastern coast of Japan’s southern island of Kyushu, Saiki City is home to more than 51,000 people, working in industries including fresh produce, cement, shipbuilding, refrigeration, pearls, strawberries, roses and dried fish.
From May 1 to 22, children of the Gladstone region can participate in a variety of free, hands-on craft activities available at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum. ....
