BERLIN, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) Passenger numbers and ticket earnings in Germany s public transport and regional rail transport last year both plummeted due to restrictions and lockdowns caused by the COVID-19 crisis, the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) said on Thursday.
The industry s losses from ticket earnings between March and December last year amounted to 3.5 billion euros (4.2 billion U.S. dollars), according to the VDV. While most regular customers chose not to cancel their passes, revenues from occasional trips largely collapsed.
People are traveling far less due to the coronavirus, both for work and for leisure, said Ingo Wortmann, president of the VDV, in a statement. ....
