Mthethwa signals seismic shake-up of sport in SA after years of 'lip service'
25 April 2021 - 00:00 By Liam Del Carme, Zimasa Matiwane and David Isaacson
Sports minister Nathi Mthethwa has come out guns blazing at Cricket SA (CSA), accusing cricket bosses of "destroying the sport" and reducing the game to "a shadow of our former self".
The minister's blunt assessment of the state of cricket in SA came at the end of a week in which he lost patience with administrators, and took the first steps towards defunding and deregistering the game. The move effectively puts South African cricket back to its isolation days pre-1992...

Cricket South Africa (CSA) is hanging by the thread after Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa penned a letter to the interim board.

It's understood Mthethwa told the board on Thursday that he would exercise his powers in terms of Section 13 of the National Sport and Recreation Act.
The letter comes after the board failed to implement a new memorandum of incorporation, which would have meant having more independent directors, as well as an independent chair.
Once gazetted, CSA stands to lose its government funding and national recognition.

For upstate New York farmers, being able to sell online was a game changer during the pandemic. But the fees involved in e-commerce and lack of high-speed internet access in rural locations posed problems.Amy Scott Photography
Dale-Ila Riggs knew a monumental change was in the works the moment the Troy Farmers Market — one of the region’s oldest and largest — closed down in March 2020. For the past several years, Riggs, the owner of The Berry Patch in Stephentown in Rensselaer County, had made the bulk of her annual sales there. In the earliest days of the pandemic, as many farms scrambled to come up with a solution to getting their products into customers’ hands, she recalls, “I just put out an email blast and some Facebook and Instagram posts, telling people to email us with their orders.”
