Steel city residents are flouting Covid protocols including social distancing by turning up in large numbers at local markets, sometimes, even without masks.
The Sakchi market remains crowded after 9 am till well past noon while the vegetable market at Ganesh Puja ground in Kadma bears a similar picture, especially on Sundays. Same is the scenario at other markets of the city.
Most of the people are usually wearing masks well below their noses while some hang it from their neck. Social distancing has apparently taken a backseat with people seemingly in a hurry to hit the market to buy essentials when the lockdown is relaxed from 6 am to 3 pm. ....

The East Singhbhum district administration has ramped up Covid testing in steel city with addition of one more centre that s working out of the community hall at Biswajeet Manimela ground at Bistupur here on Tuesday.
The facility at Manimela ground is the seventh in Jamshedpur. Six Covid testing centres are already functioning at Sidhgora Town hall, Community Health Centre in Olidih (Mango), Tarun Sangh in Kadma, Community Health Centre in Kagalnagar (Sonari), Jail Chowk in Sakchi and M.E. School in Jugsalai. ....

Police hold flag march to impose lockdown curbs in steel city

Concerned over the spurt in Covid cases, the East Singhbhum district administration launched a mega drive on Monday by taking out a flag march to drill into people the necessity of following lockdown rules and other safety protocols.
The flagmarch, which was taken out from Sakchi police station, had more than 20 vehicles and was led by senior SP Tamil M Vanan.
It went around various places covering the Sakchi roundabout, Shitla Mandir area, Jhanda Chowk and Straight Mike Road.
The senior SP, accompanied by ADM (law and order) N. K. Lal and other senior police officers, reprimanded several shop owners at Sakchi for not adhering to lockdown orders. ....

Social outfit starts auto ambulance service in Jamshedpur
Equipped with oxygen cylinders, driver in PPE gear will transport Covid patients
The social organisation Marwari Yuva Manch s women wing - Surabhi - on Sunday started a free auto ambulance service for Covid-19 patients in Jamshedpur.
The service will help in carrying patients to hospitals and other Covid care centres.
Convenor of Marwari Yuva Manch s steel city chapter Renu Agarwal said the service will be available round the clock.
We have introduced an auto ambulance supported by oxygen cylinders for carrying Covid-19 patients to hospitals. The auto ambulance driver will be in PPE and will follow necessary Covid protocols, said Agarwal adding that they have also taken an approval from the district health department for introducing the auto ambulance service. ....
