Congress calls for six-hour bandh in Odisha over rising fuel price, normal life affected Mohammad Suffian The six-hour bandh called by Odisha Congress against frequent fuel price rise and other issues is being observed across the state today, affecting normal life. Vehicular traffic has been disrupted in many parts of the state including in the capital city as Congress workers have resorted to road blockade at Satsang Vihar Square in Bhubaneswar. Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded at Cuttack, Balasore, Bhadrak and Sambalpur. Emergency services including ambulance, milk vans, vehicles carrying newspaper and examinees have been exempted from the purview of the bandh. BHUBANESWAR: A recent report of the Centre showed that the route of coastal highway under the Bharatmala project is changed. Originally, it was between Gopalpur in Ganjam district and Digha in West Bengal (around 450km), but now the highway will start from Tangi in Khurda district and end at Digha, shortened by 80 km from the original plan. Sources said an expert appraisal committee (EAC) formed by the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change and the ministry of road transport and highways have suggested the new alignment keeping the Chilika ecosystem and other wildlife issues in mind. Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal supported farmers demand for Minimum Support Price and resolved to fight for implementation of MS Swaminathan Committee report on the issue. The party stated that inclusive development of the farmers has always been a key focus of the BJD government in the state. “Our party is with the farmers on MSP issues and we will continue our fight for the same as per the Swaminathan Committee recommendations,” the party said in one of the resolutions passed at its state executive committee meeting that ended last evening.
