The incumbent Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K Palaniswami is leading in his constituency Edappadi by nearly 20,000 votes after the sixth round of counting. The latest data released by the Election commission shows that the four-time MLA has garnered 30169 votes as compared to 10,266 votes received by his DMK rival T Sambathkumar.
The counting of votes for the 234-member Legislative Assembly in Tamil Nadu began at 8 am on Sunday amidst strict Covid protocol.
A party would require at least 118 seats to win the election. The E Palaniswami-led AIADMK, who has allied with BJP, seeks to retain power for the third time in a row but faces a stiff challenge from M K Stalin-led DMK. ....

Early trends from Tamil Nadu show that DMK led alliance is racing ahead and looks set to form a government. MK Stalin is leading from Kolathur and Udayanidhi Stalin is leading from Chepauk.
For the first time, the elections have seen a contest between DMK and AIADMK without two great leaders and arch rivals J Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi. The polling for Tamil Nadu was conducted on April 6.
The counting of votes for the 234-member Legislative Assembly in Tamil Nadu started at 8 am on Sunday with strict Covid protocol. IT raids properties of DMK chief Stalin's son-in-law

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 2 (ANI): Four days ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly polls, the income tax department conducted searches at the DMK chief MK Stalin s son-in-law s houses in Chennai.
Of the eight places where searches commenced this morning, four in Chennai are linked to Stalin s daughter Senthamarai and son-in-lawSabareesan.
Income tax officials said the searches started on Friday morning at Stalin s daughter s houses in Teynampet and Neelangarai.
Apart from Sabareesan s residence, several other places connected to him are also being searched.
The Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu will be held in a single phase on April 6 and the counting of votes will be done on May 2. The term of the fifteenth Legislative Assembly in Tamil Nadu is ending on May 2, 2021. As many as 6,28,23,749 electors will choose candidates for the sixteenth legislative assembly in the state.
