Consortium of Public Sector Workers Raises Concern – Over Law Makers US$30K – Global News Network

The Consortium of Public Sector Workers (CPSWL) of Liberia has raised concern over the thirty thousand United State Dollars (US$30,000) being distributed to each lawmaker as Legislative Engagement Fund.
The Consortium comprising of the National Teachers’ Association of Liberia, the National Health Workers’ Union of Liberia, the Civil Servant Association of Liberia and the National Pensioners’ Union of Liberia in separate remarks recently lamented that it was disheartening for lawmakers to distribute such huge money among themselves when the nation is plagued with a perennial pandemic.
The Consortium stressed that while it acknowledged that the money being distributed is lawful as it was earlier budgeted for, the group maintained that it was troubled with the timing of such distribution amidst the ranging COVIC-19 pandemic when several Liberians and other residents are being killed by the disease; while local health centers are overwhelmed with patients struck by the ....

NASS Bill sidelines NCDC as Health Ministry reject Bill

The Minister of Health, Dr Osage Ehanire and other stakeholders rejected a provision made in the Bill co-sponsored by the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Primary Healthcare and Communicable Diseases and Health Institutions, in Abuja.
According to the minister and others, the piece of legislation duplicates key functions of the National Centre for Diseases Control, NCDC, and this to them, is a waste of efforts.
The Minister in his submission at a public hearing on the Bill, picked holes in part 6 and other sections of the Bill.
The Ministry also picked loopholes in several other sections duplicating the already statutory functions of the NCDC. ....

FG faults Public Health Emergency bill, says provisions clashing with NCDC mandates

The bill seeks to repeal the Quarantine Act 2004 and enact the Public Health Emergency Act 2021.
It aims at providing for an effective and efficient legal and administrative machinery to address the challenges posed by any sudden outbreak of infectious diseases endangering public health in Nigeria.
The minister said some of its provisions were already contained in other enactments of the National Assembly such as the NCDC Act of 2018.
“To be specific, sections 1 and 3 of the bill portend potential conflict with existing Act of the NCDC as far as task force for formulation and implementation of emergency measures are concerned,” he said. ....

The Minister of Health, Dr Osage Ehanire, and several other stakeholders, Thursday kicked against provisions in a bill sponsored by Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Primary Healthcare and Communicable Diseases and Health Institutions.
The piece of legislation, they noted, duplicates key functions of the National Centre for Diseases Control, NCDC, and according to them, is a waste of efforts.
