Hyderabad, May 24 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday directed officials to implement a two-pronged strategy to curtail the Covid-19 spread in the state.
He asked them to continue fever survey, and distribute medical kits, while also ramping up testing.
Reviewing the Covid situation at a high-level meeting, he said that the on-going fever survey and distribution of medical kits, the first of its kind in the country, is yielding good results and it should be continued.
KCR, as Rao is popularly known, directed the Medical and Health Department to increase the number of Rapid Antigen Test Kits in all the medical centres. He said from Tuesday the number of kits should be increased and if need be, the manufacturers should be asked to increase the production and supply. ....

More Chinese people are moving to economically developed regions and city clusters in the eastern region, the country s latest census shows.
People living in more-developed East China make up 39.93 percent of the total mainland population, up 2.15 percentage points compared with 2010, according to the seventh national census, which was released on Tuesday.
The census also shows those residing in the central region of China constitute 25.83 percent of the total, a 0.79 percentage point decline, and those in western regions are 27.12 percent of the total, up by 0.22 percentage point compared with a decade ago. ....

Afrikaans-speaking families and youth most sceptical of Covid-19 vaccines

A high percentage of people in SA who identified Afrikaans as their home language are hesitant to get a Covid-19 vaccination, a new study tracking trends during the pandemic has found.
The National Income Dynamics Study Coronavirus Rapid Mobile Survey (Nids-Cram) was released on Wednesday, looking at vaccines, schools, hunger, employment, and other categories.
Overall, the study found that 71% of adults in the country would be willing to get a vaccination. SA s national vaccine rollout starts on Monday.
“Our estimate is the highest estimate of vaccine intention for adults in SA to date. [About] 42% of Afrikaans home language respondents were vaccine-hesitant, much higher than the national average . and significantly higher than seven of the 11 language groups,” it found. ....
