DHAKA, May 20 (Xinhua) China s telecommunication giant Huawei has announced its support for South Asian countries including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal to tap 100,000 fresh digital talents over the next five years.
A spokesperson from Huawei made the announcement at the Digital Talent Regional Summit held online Thursday.
Themed Cultivating a Talent Ecosystem for Inclusive Digital Prosperity, the summit brought together officials and scholars from the three countries, and experts and representatives from UNESCO and the ICT industry, to explore collaborative initiatives for closing the digital skill gaps and facilitating the digital transformation in the post-pandemic economic recovery. ....

Climate change affects increasing urbanisation: Study

Air density of Dhaka’s two of the most marginalised low-income slums is four to five times higher above the permission limit of Bangladesh for 24 hours. 
As a result, residents suffer with air pollution induced diseases like laryngeal problems, asthma and bronchial problems.
A study report published Wednesday titled “Urban Localized Pollution in the Context of Climate Change” revealed such information during its virtual launching and discussion event.
According to the study report, the major source of indoor air pollution in both the marginalise areas are earthen stoves for cooking, using biomass as fuel. Women are the most severely affected by air pollution as they are exposed to smoke for long stretches of time during cooking.    ....

Domestic electronics, technology products should get priority in govt procurement: Speakers

Bangladesh, April 28 Speakers at a webinar on Tuesday demanded amending the Public Procurement Rules (PPR) in favour of domestic industries to give priorities to locally-made products in government procurement process.
Speakers made the suggestions at a webinar titled Bangladesh in Industrialization . Bangladesh Electrical, Electronics and Home Appliance Manufacturing and Exporters Association (BEEMEA) organised the webinar.
They said Bangladesh is self-sufficient in manufacturing of electronics and technology products. After meeting local demand, the Made in Bangladesh labelled products are being exported to different countries. But the homemade products are being neglected in government procurement. ....
