Criticising the police firing on agitating workers during a protest in the coal-based power plant in Banshkhali of Chattogram yesterday, several organisations, including trade bodies and left-leaning party, today protested the killing and demanded justice for the workers, who were killed in the incident.
Bangladesh Chhatra Federation, Samajtrantik Chhatra Front, Gonotrantik Chhatra Council, Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra and Garment Workers Trade Union of Narayanganj held rallies in Narayanganj and Chattogram city today.
At the rallies, the leaders of the organisations demanded a fair probe to investigate the firing incident on workers and bring those who are responsible under the book.

Police today barred activists of left-leaning student bodies, who were going to lay siege to the law ministry to press home their demands of scrapping the Digital Security Act.
A procession of the activists, under the banner of Pragatishil Chhatra Jote, reached near the law ministry when police barred them by putting barricades on the road, said Sadat Mahmud, organisational secretary of Chhatra Union, Dhaka city unit.
Being resisted, they staged a sit-in there. Later, they ended their programme for today.

A scuffle broke out between police and students in the capital when the latter were marching towards the Home Ministry to besiege it to press home their various demands including abolition of the Digital Security Act.
Other demands include investigation into the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jail, release of their eight leaders and activists and withdrawal of cases filed against them.
Leaders and activists of the student bodies, including Bangladesh Chhatra Front, Chhatra Federation, started their march towards the Home Ministry around 12 pm from Raju Sculpture.
The scuffle took place when police restricted them near the secretariat. Then the protesters took position there and started sit-in.
