City leaders dedicated the new Community Foundation Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday.
The park is at the intersection of Dr. Joseph Lowery Boulevard and Pelham Avenue, in front of the Redstone Federal Credit Union building.
The park features benches, lights and an art installation.
City leaders say it s a great way to get outdoors and enjoy some family time.
They re able to come and sit in the park. They re able to come and eat in the park and enjoy each other s company and walk the paths from here to another park that is right downtown, said Bernita Reese, Huntsville Parks and Recreation Director. ....

With saxophonist Alex Banks behind him ready to celebrate with music, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle dedicates the city s new Community Foundation Park in front of Redstone Federal Credit Union. The sculpture Travelers behind Battle is one of three new sculptures for the city center and designed and installed by David Dahquist and Matt Niebuhr.

Huntsville opened a new downtown gateway park today on Dr. Joseph E. Lowry Boulevard, the road it plans to make a new main entrance to downtown. The park’s centerpiece is a large vertical sculpture named “Travelers,” one of three “travelers” sculptures planned along the boulevard commemorating the city’s space history and industry. ....
