100 beaches to get international status soon: Minister | Mangaluru News


UDUPI/DELHI: The ministry of environment, forest and climate change (MoEF&CC) has identified 100 beaches across India and plans to make them neat and clean in the next phase. With people’s participation, the ministry, with help from Society of Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM), aims to upgrade the beaches to international standards in the next five years, said Prakash Javadekar, Union minister for environment, forest and climate change.
Hoisting the international Blue Flag at eight beaches, including Padubidri in Udupi and Kasarkod in Uttara Kannada virtually on Monday, Javadekar said: “It is a proud moment for India that all the eight beaches which were showcased have been awarded the coveted Blue Flag. I compliment and congratulate the state governments, officials and people for this feat.” Five of these eight beaches are on the west coast and the remaining three on the east. ....

UDUPI/NEW DELHI: Ministry of environment, forest and climate change (MoEF&CC) has identified 100 beaches across India and plans to make them neat and clean in the next phase.
With people s participation, the ministry with help from Society of Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM) wishes to make them of international standards in coming 3-4 years, union minister for environment, forest and climate change Prakash Javadekar announced.
Hoisting the international Blue Flag at eight beaches – Padubidri in Udupi and Kasarkod in Uttara Kannada virtually on Monday, Javadekar said, “It is a proud moment for India that all the eight beaches which were showcased have been awarded the coveted Blue Flag. The Udupi district administration has decided to allow domestic and foreign tourists to the blue flag-certified Padubidri beach from Thursday.

MANGALURU: The Udupi district administration has decided to allow domestic and foreign tourists to the blue flag-certified Padubidri beach from Thursday.
All works connected with the blue flag certification have been completed with the cooperation of the Union Ministry of Environment and Society of Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM), District Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha said.
The Padubidri beach had received blue flag international recognition on October 11, along with seven other beaches in the country. ....

Certification under Central programme is meant to propel tourism
Emerald Beach at Karaikal has been edged out of the reckoning for the Blue Flag certification under a programme initiated in 2018 by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to propel tourism with improved amenities.
A team of experts from the Ministries of Science and Technology and Environment and Forests had visited Karaikal two years ago to determine whether the Emerald Beach measured up to the requirements of the certification by the Denmark-based Foundation for Environment Education based on 33 stringent criteria under the four heads: environmental education and information; bathing water quality; environment management and conservation; and safety and services. ....
