The government began providing Covid-19 vaccines to the public on May 17, after the Sisonke study for healthcare workers came to an end. The big question now on everyone’s mind is: “When will I get my shot?”
Here’s what we know so far. 
Who is currently eligible?
Healthcare workers and people over the age of 60. Healthcare workers are being vaccinated in what is known as phase 1b of the rollout; people over the age of 60 are the first stage of phase 2. Phase 1a was the Sisonke study. ....

Based on the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in other countries, an SA expert predicts SA’s third wave could be 25% more severe than the second wave, but says the risk can be mitigated if precautions are taken now. ....

The decades-long struggle to rid SA of tuberculosis may have suffered a reversal during the Covid-19 pandemic, say researchers.
With people reluctant to visit clinics for TB testing or to pick up their medication for fear of contracting Covid-19, tests fell dramatically in SA last year, said Prof Keertan Dheda, head of pulmonology at UCT’s medical school.
