Temporary Closure of Justins Bridge on Darkwood Road
Council will be undertaking essential geotechnical investigations as part of the Fixing Country Bridges Program on Justins Bridge. These works are part of ongoing investigations into the removal of the current load limit and replacement of the bridge with a reinforced concrete structure.
As a result, these works will necessitate the full closure of Darkwood Road at Justins Bridge between the hours of 8:30am and 4pm on Tuesday 18 May 2021 and Wednesday 19 May 2021, weather permitting.
The crews undertaking investigations will commenceTuesday morning with a mid-span borehole through the existing bridge. Pending drilling progress, it is hoped that the closure could be reduced to 1 day – this will be communicated through a VMS board placed onsite. ....

Byron Shire Council is replacing three bridges and one causeway as part of the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Bridges Program and the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program.
Upper Main Arm Bridge at Upper Main Arm, Sherrington’s Bridge at The Pocket and Englishes Bridge at Upper Coopers Creek are timber bridges that are in poor condition and $1.57 million from the Fixing Country Bridges Program will allow for the replacement of all three.
“With the exception of the refurbished South Arm Bridge at Brunswick Heads, these are the last timber bridges in the Byron Shire,” Council’s Road and Bridge Engineer, Josh Provis, said. ....

Nearly $10 million has been allocated to replace 10 wooden bridges in the Lismore local government area.
This is part of the Fixing Country Bridges Program designed to support councils replace ageing timber bridges that are nearing the end of their life. ....

Kyogle mayor Danielle Mulholland has described $40 million in government funding to replace 84 timber bridges across the shire as a huge leap forward .
The Fixing Country Bridges Program supports councils in regional NSW to replace ageing timber bridges and improve safety and access for the community.
North Coast based Nationals MP Ben Franklin said this was a huge level of investment that would make a considerable difference to people living in and around Kyogle.
Maintenance and repair costs on these old timber bridges are a financial burden to Council and ratepayers and this funding will remove that p ....
