Lifesavers and LANDSAR want council funding for equipment

Group support manager Peter Zimmer, when speaking to Horizons on Wednesday, said organisations like St John’s and Fire and Emergency New Zealand got funding from different sources.
LandSAR got some funding for support stuff, but had to fundraise for almost all its money through things like sausage sizzles.
Zimmer brought a mule wheel – a stretcher designed for rough terrain – into the meeting, saying buying one cost about $6000.
“That’s an awful lot of sausages to sell.”
Many LandSAR members had their own equipment to use, but it may not be exactly what they needed, Zimmer said.
“They’ll maybe use their farm raincoat when going out.” ....
