Missing Children's Network unveils annual poster featuring unresolved cases | Community


In honor of International Missing Children’s Day, which took place on May 25, the Missing Children’s Network unveiled its annual poster featuring 12 unresolved missing children cases.
“We thank you for sharing it within your network. The more it is seen, the better are our chances of locating a missing child and providing their families with the gift of closure,” read the statement.
Last year, according to the RCMP’s 2020 Annual Report, law enforcement in Quebec registered 3,831 cases of missing children. This is a significant decrease as compared to 5,805 cases in the previous year and can be attributed in part to the restrictions imposed by the government (school closures, confinement, curfew, non-essential travels) in response to the pandemic. While the news is certainly encouraging, we can all concur that one missing child is already one too many. Following are some of the highlights of the Annual Report: ....

New Delhi– 9,453 cases of missing children were reported in Delhi and four neighbouring states between January-July 2020. In 74 per cent cases the missing children were girl. In absolute numbers this figure, 7,065, reveals a status report by Child Rights and You (CRY) titled ‘COVID and Missing Childhoods: A Status Report from 5 States’. The study was conducted to understand the impact of COVID-19 pandemic led lockdown on status of missing children.
The report was released by CRY on the eve of International Missing Children’s Day observed across the globe every year on May 25. It draws inferences for 5 prominent northern states namely Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana. ....

"Operation Cemetery" team digs up new leads in unsolved missing persons cases

In Belgium, a total of 759 cases of disappearances are unsolved. The missing persons unit of the federal police believes the solution to solving at least some of these cases could lie with the 250 unidentified bodies buried in cemeteries throughout Belgium.
The purpose of the unit’s Operation Cemetery therefore is to map these bodies, to try to identify them through DNA samples and link them to missing persons cases.
The spotlight was turned on the operation during International Missing Children’s Day on Tuesday, when deputy prime minister Vincent Van Quickenborne joined the missing persons unit at the cemetery in Assebroek, near Bruges, to observe the team at work. ....
