Virtual dog walk raises important funds for guide dog charity

DOG lovers have united with Specsavers Ópticas to help raise 1,325€ through a virtual dog walk.
Hundreds of people took part in the charity event to support the important work of the ONCE Foundation for Guide Dogs (FOPG). The charity breeds and trains guide dogs, so they can be placed free of charge with people who have severe visual impairment in the community, enabling them to live the fullest lives possible.
Jorge Martínez de Lizarduy Araico from Specsavers Ópticas Benidorm, praised the public for their generosity and also thanked his colleagues across all nine Specsavers Ópticas stores for their efforts during the fundraising campaign. ....

WE TELL YOU THIS BECAUSE TODAY IS INTERNATIONAL GUIDE DOG DAY. THE GUIDE DOG FOUNDATION IS CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF PLACING GUIDE DOGS WITH INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED. THIS IS WENDY LAWRENCE. SHE HAS A HEREDITARY EYE DISEASE AND RECENTLY GOT PAIRED WITH HER GUIDE DOG RALPH. Graduation day for guide dogs

CALGARY
April 28th is International Guide Dog Day and 20 Canadians who are blind or partially sighted are graduating with their guide dogs after completing months of intensive training.
Fourteen-year-old Gabriel Pigeon and his Buddy Dog Maggie are among the 2021 graduates of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) Guide Dogs Buddy Program.
Pigeon told CTV News Calgary in an interview that throughout training he had a lot of fun and made some new friends but more importantly to him, (Maggie) gives me a lot more confidence, I was always worried about running into poles, running into the clear bus shelters and with Maggie, she s able to steer me away from that. ....

Gavin And Stacey star Joanna Page has lent her voice to a new short story to mark the 90th anniversary of sight-loss charity Guide Dogs.
The three-minute clip shows an animated version of puppy Flash on her journey to becoming a guide dog, with Page voicing a special audio version of the story created specifically for people with sight loss.
