March, 2021 – A Year of COVID-19

As I write this, we are now recognizing the one-year anniversary of the announcement of the COVID-19 pandemic. The world as we knew it before March 10 of 2020, will not return. The entire planet has been forced into a total adjustment of “how we used to do stuff”.
Our behaviors reflect the restrictions placed upon us to protect us from illness or possibly potential demise.
One of the restrictions has limited the amount of contact we can have with our family, friends and community. Being “locked down” has had a severe impact on our emotional, mental and physical well-being. We need to be reminded that we are a social group of beings, and that we thrive with generous helpings of personal interaction, communication and physical contact. Unwatered plants tend to droop, and so do we without smatterings of human stimulus. ....

'The need is so high': Prince Albert groups help feed 85 families for holidays

Several groups in Prince Albert have pitched in to ensure 85 families can cook nutritious meals as Christmas nears.
On Wednesday, Prince Albert Outreach Program staff distributed hampers consisting of food for a few hearty meals. Safeway donated most of the food, such as ham and potatoes, the Prince Albert Police Association donated oranges and the Prince Albert Grand Council donated fresh vegetables.
The P.A. Outreach Program also included “a special surprise,” according to elder Liz Settee.
“I remember growing up, we would get our hampers from the Salvation Army,” she said.
“I know what it’s like to appreciate the hampers and it just makes me feel so much better to be able to pass that on and do it for someone else.” ....

All Prince Albert public and Catholic division schools moving to remote learning

Starting Monday, all students in both Prince Albert school divisions will temporarily move to remote learning.
The announcement was made by the Prince Albert Catholic Schools and the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School divisions on Friday night. A press release said the preventative measure is in response to public health recommendations based on the increased rates of community transmission of COVID-19.
“Students will participate and engage in remote learning programming as learning expectations will remain a priority,” the release read. “Schools will provide specialized programming or support for intensive learning needs on an individualized basis.”
Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 students will participate in the remote learning until Jan. 15, 2021 and can expect to return to class on Jan. 18, pending further review of health data. ....

Kinsmen Club's gift of toques and mitts helps kids in Prince Albert

SASKATOON
Prince Albert school children are sporting some new winter clothes thanks to the Kinsmen Club s fourth annual Toques and Mitts for Kids gift-giving project.
The club bought new toques, mitts, scarves and neck warmers and gave them to 550 students at five schools in Prince Albert.
“We want to make a difference in kids’ lives. We want to serve our community’s most vulnerable people,” said project chairperson Jared Devers from the Prince Albert Kinsmen Club.
COVID-19 restrictions will change the presentation of the gifts for this year, as the club representatives used to visit the schools and hand out the gifts in person. ....
