Province invests in skills training at Sask Polytech and SATCC

The provincial government announced roughly $13-million in funding for Saskatchewan Polytechinic and the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) on Tuesday.
The funds will allow both institutions to engage under-represented groups, create jobs in long-term care, and increase the number of apprentices in Saskatchewan.
Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison touted the funding as a way to improve the province’s workforce.
“Saskatchewan’s greatest resource has always been its people,” Harrison said in a media release. “This funding supports the provincial Growth Plan priority to develop a skilled workforce in our province through education and training.” ....

Saskatchewan to spend more than $10 million to battle labour shortfalls


“In some areas it is extremely desperate,” he said.
The construction industry is also beginning to feel pressures from an increasingly tight labour market, according to Mark Cooper, president and CEO of the Saskatchewan Construction Association.
Supply chain worries had been front of mind as the cost of building materials rocketed up early this year. But now Cooper is hearing fairly consistent concerns about labour. It’s not yet a “serious problem,” but it is leading to vacant positions and more cancelled jobs.
Jeremy Harrison, Saskatchewan’s minister of trade and export development, said on Tuesday that the provincial government will soon announce initiatives worth more than $10 million to help integrate underrepresented groups into the labour market. ....
