The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) administrator has announced that management committees will be formed to improve the conditions of the city’s graveyards that are under the administrative control of the municipal body.
“The involvement of social and welfare organisations in the management of the cemeteries will improve the situation,” said Laeeq Ahmed on Monday. “Work will start at six graveyards in the first phase, and then expand to the entire city in the following stages.”
Addressing a meeting that was attended by representatives of different social and welfare organisations of the city, Ahmed said that management committees should be formed to supervise the affairs of the cemeteries. The committees will also formulate the procedure to issue certificates, he added. ....

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has allocated 60 acres for establishing two new cemeteries in the cityâs West district. Managing committees are also being formed to control the graveyard mafia.
KMC Administrator Laeeq Ahmed said on Monday that welfare organisations are ready to cooperate with the municipal body for setting up model cemeteries. He said that all measures will be taken to reclaim the graveyards from the clutches of land grabbers and save the new ones from the mafia.
The administrator held a meeting with the Land Utilisation Department, during which it was decided that 60 acres will be allocated for two new graveyards at Deh Mawach Goth and Deh Mauripur in District West. A big cemetery will be established on 55 acres, while another one will be built on a piece of land measuring five acres, the meeting decided. ....

One-window facility to be introduced at KMC graveyards

Administrator Laeeq Ahmed on Monday announced that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will introduce a one-window facility at every graveyard under the control of the municipal body.
Ahmed lamented the condition of the KMCâs cemeteries, saying that they are being controlled by graveyard mafias, who have been ruling the cityâs cemeteries. He ordered the KMCâs officials to make the burial process at these graveyards simpler by introducing a one-window facility.
The graveyardsâ managing committees â which include welfare organisations such as the Saylani Welfare Trust (SWT), the Jafaria Disaster Management Cell (JDC) Welfare Organisation, the Edhi Foundation and the Chhipa Welfare Association (CWA) â will work for providing better facilities at the KMCâs cemeteries. ....
